DTF Transfer Placement Guide
Getting the size right is half the job — placement is the other half. Use these standard placement measurements:
- Left chest: 3"–4" down from the left shoulder seam, centered between the placket and side seam.
- Center chest / full front: 2"–3" below the collar for adults, 1.5"–2" for youth, centered between side seams.
- Full back: 4"–5" below the collar seam, centered.
- Sleeve: centered on the sleeve, 0.5"–1" above the hem (short sleeve) or on the upper arm (long sleeve).

How to Pick the Perfect Size for Your DTF Transfers
- Know Your Audience: Adult, youth, or infant garments require different transfer sizes for the best look.
- Design Details Matter: Highly detailed designs may need to be sized larger to maintain clarity and quality.
- Factor in the Fabric: Bulkier materials like hoodies might need larger transfers compared to thinner t-shirts.
- Test Before Bulk Ordering: Order a sample to ensure your chosen size looks perfect once pressed.
DTF Transfer Size FAQ
What size should a DTF transfer be for an adult t-shirt?
For a standard adult center-chest design, 9"–11" wide is the sweet spot. Size up to 11"–12.5" for a full-front look on large and XL shirts, and down to 8"–9" for small adult sizes or slim-fit tees.
What size is a left chest or pocket design?
Left chest and pocket designs run 3"–4" wide for adults — about the size of a credit card to a coaster. Logos with fine text should lean toward 4" so details stay readable.
How far below the collar should I place a DTF transfer?
Place adult center-chest designs 2"–3" below the collar and full-back designs 4"–5" below the collar seam. A quick trick: fold the shirt in half vertically and crease lightly to find the center line.
What sizes do DTF gang sheets come in?
Our custom DTF gang sheets are printed by the roll — you pick the length and fill the sheet with as many designs and sizes as fit. It's the most cost-effective way to order multiple sizes at once.
Does the same size work on hoodies and t-shirts?
Mostly, yes — but bulkier fleece can visually shrink a design, so many decorators size hoodie prints 0.5"–1" larger than the same design on a tee. Avoid pressing over thick seams and pockets.
