What Are DTF Transfers?

DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers are a groundbreaking printing method that enables designs to be printed onto specialized PET film and heat-pressed onto fabric or other materials. DTF prints create detailed, vibrant designs on items such as:

DTF transfers work on a wide range of fabrics, including cotton, polyester, silk, linen, and leather, offering unmatched versatility.

While highly effective, DTF transfers have some limitations:

• Color Constraints: DTF printers use the CMYK color model, which may limit certain color choices.
• Texture Changes: Large designs may feel stiffer, affecting the fabric’s natural drape.

How to Print DTF Transfers

Follow these steps to create stunning DTF prints:

Note: These steps are not necessary when you are ordering transfers from a DTF print vendor.  Your DTF prints will arrive ready to press.

1. Design: Create a digital design using design software.
2. Print: Use a DTF printer to transfer the design onto PET film.
3. Adhesive: Apply a special adhesive powder to the printed film.
4. Cure: Heat the film to set the adhesive powder.
5. Transfer: Heat-press the film onto the fabric at 320°F for 15 seconds, let it cool, and peel the film off.
6. Final Press: Heat-press again for 15 seconds with parchment paper for a professional finish.

What You Need for DTF Transfers

Note: You don't need a DTF Printer, PET film or ink when ordering transfers.  Design software will be helpful with design edits and custom designs for transfers.
